Throughout history, eggs have given as gifts during spring festivals to mark the seasons.
As a creative experimentation, we have been exploring incarnations of Easter eggs from around the world and pairing them with new technologies and new processes to see if they are all they're cracked up to be.
Enjoy.
Over the past 40 days, we have been experimenting with VR painting tools from Adobe, LiDAR scanning apps from Polycam, 3D capture app Maxon Moves, online 3D creation websites Vectary and Spline as well as bits of Cinema4D, After Effects, air-drying clay and, of course, ChatGPT and Midjourney.
We have kept the experimentation time for each idea relatively short to maintain momentum and keep the project fun.
We are now excited to see how or if each of these platforms should find a space in our studio practice moving forward.
Decorating
Inspired by golden Egyptian ostrich eggs, we created our own golden sculpture using Adobe's VR sculpting tools and Vectary online 3D interactive site, taking visual reference from the Egyptian Netherworld.
Egg Hunt
After recently playing with LiDAR & 3D scanning apps like Polycam, we created a virtual Easter egg hunt in the Manchester office. See if you can find all four eggs inside the virtual space to see what surprises are inside.
Cascarón
Common throughout Mexico, a cascarón is a decorated, hollowed-out chicken egg filled with confetti which may be thrown or crushed over the recipient's head. We re-created this as an online experience using Spline.
Egg Dance
An egg dance is a traditional Easter game in which eggs are laid on the floor with the goal being to dance among them, damaging as few as possible. We interpreted this as Capoeira duet between an egg and one of our team. Obviously.
Egg Roll
The tradition of rolling decorated eggs down grassy hills goes back hundreds of years. To us, it felt a bit like crazy golf, so we made a typographic, egg rolling golf course.
Makers of stuff
This project was a collaboration between Oli (Designer) and Chris (Creative) from the Manchester office of TCEG. Lovers of design and interactivity, we wanted to find a focus for our recent experiments with new programs and processes into a single project for both the inspiration and the deadline.
